Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Patient Care Technician to assist in providing safe and effective patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Duties include communicating essential information during handoffs, maintaining real-time documentation, and protecting patient privacy.

The role prioritizes daily tasks, supports the care team, and prepares to respond to emergencies within scope of practice while upholding Mercy's patient-centered care philosophy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Completion of a CNA or Health Support Professional program preferred.
• 2 years in a baccalaureate program or one year in an Associate’s Degree in Nursing program preferred.
• Comparable education, training and experience may substitute CNA/Health Support program.

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate information at hand offs to patients, families, and co-workers.
• Ensure information is shared with the appropriate parties for the best patient outcomes.
• Provide safe patient care under supervision of a licensed nurse as delegated by the department.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to the licensed nurse.
• Demonstrate effective communication considering patients' needs including language and cultural barriers.
• Maintain real-time documentation of patient care.
• Protect patient privacy by safeguarding information.
• Respond to emergencies within scope of practice.
• Support changes in practice to improve performance.
• Prioritize daily work considering patient needs and other health care workers.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and work areas.
• Identify quality improvement opportunities and support practice changes.
