Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to perform direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. You will assist with daily living activities, vital signs, phlebotomy, and basic rehab as part of a patient-centered team in Morgantown, WV.

The role emphasizes infection prevention, safe patient handling, and clear communication with patients, families, and staff. Day shift, non-exempt, 24 hours weekly, with standard hospital benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assists all assigned patients with activities of daily living according to need in a timely manner including making all assigned beds.
• Safely transports and patients to tests and procedures, and escorts patients for discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs routine tests such as glucose monitoring and maintains quality control logs per department policy.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services, excluding line draws, in departments determined by management.
• Records vital signs and measurements per policy.
• Provides respiratory support and oxygen administration as needed.
• Encourages use of incentive spirometer as directed.
• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to RN promptly.
• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures.
• Assists with examinations and procedures.
• Assists with basic rehab/Physical Therapy activities.
• Communicates nutrition issues to RN.
• Provides total care within scope of practice when assigned sitter or constant visual responsibilities.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Keeps equipment clean and reports equipment repairs.
• Assists in routine unit operations for smooth functioning.
• Answers telephone and patient call bells promptly and relays messages.
