Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the Emergency Dept Access Service at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, NJ. This role handles patient registration, scheduling, and financial assistance workflows during night shifts, ensuring accurate data entry and efficient cash handling.

The successful candidate will have 2-3 years in hospital patient access or billing/collections, strong communication skills, and a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years experience in a hospital patient registration setting, preferably in an ED.
• Leadership skills or experience
• 2-3 years experience handling patients scheduling, obtaining pre-certifications, authorizations and referrals
• 2-3 years in a patient services environment (billing/collections) with knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs and others
• 2-3 years experience in completing medical assistance applications (family care, PE’s, PAIC’s or charity care)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to organize and manage time effectively to optimize productivity

Responsibilities

• Provides professional, efficient customer service to patients, clients, guests and co-workers.
• Verifies benefits, obtains pre-certification or referrals as needed.
• Registers patients into the computer to create encounters and account numbers.
• Collects patient payments and follows cashier procedures.
• Answers inquiries promptly and identifies location when answering the phone.
