Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health's RWJUH Somerset campus is seeking a Patient Access Representative to coordinate patient registrations and admissions. You will collect demographic, financial, and insurance information to ensure timely registration and high patient satisfaction.

Evening shift 3-7 PM with rotating weekends and holidays; per diem; position is hourly. The role emphasizes accuracy, cash handling, and collaboration with nursing and ancillary teams to support efficient patient flow.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience
• High School diploma
• Preferred: Patient Access experience and knowledge of registration, billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent customer service to patients, colleagues and other external and internal customers
• Interviews patients, family members and other responsible parties to gather demographic and financial information for scheduling or registration
• Obtains and accurately documents all demographic information
• Obtains insurance information and initiates the verification process via third party clearinghouse
• Completes verification of coverage of all insurances and financial clearance activity
• Meets and exceeds department goals including accuracy, point of service collections and productivity
• Ensures all required forms are provided, reviewed, explained and signed by the patient or an approved representative
• Collects appropriate dollar amount for services and performs daily cash reconciliations
