Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for Hospital Operator Services to work the night shift from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am with rotating weekends and holidays. You will handle patient scheduling, verification of insurance, and data entry while upholding HIPAA and quality standards.

In this role, you will communicate with patients and hospital staff, ensure accurate demographic and financial information, and contribute to a positive patient experience through effective service

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years in customer service or a medical office setting.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficient data-entry and typing abilities (40 wpm).
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Solid organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Responds to questions and concerns.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
• Interacts with hospital departments and physicians to schedule patients.
• Reaches out to patients to schedule appointments.
• Performs eligibility checks and communicates options if needed.
• Provides training and education as needed.
• Ensures accurate patient data and efficient workflows.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent

2-3 years customer service or medical office experience

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Ability to type 40 wpm

Ability to multi-task
