Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem in Naperville is seeking a Patient Access Representative III to support financial entry and patient registration for inpatient and outpatient services. This full-time role covers the evening shift (3:00–11:30pm) with rotating weekends/holidays and requires meticulous attention to CMS/JCAHO documentation and patient information accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's Degree in a mental health field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience in crisis/emergency services or behavioral health setting.
• Knowledge of DSM IV‑R diagnostic criteria and patient rights and law pertaining to mental health.
• Substantial knowledge of insurance plans (Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation).

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with a licensed clinician to facilitate transfers and complete admission paperwork.
• Performs patient registration and reviews forms with patients.
• Ensures required Joint Commission and CMS forms are signed.
• Changes room assignments and schedules patient appointments.
• Contacts insurance to verify eligibility and benefits for all levels of care.
• Counsels patients on benefits and collects estimated patient portions.
• Assists intake/admission team with precertification and medical necessity reviews.
