Job summary

Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC, is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for the 7p-7a night shift on Unit 5-1 - Medicine. This 36-bed acute care unit cares for patients with end stage renal disease, dyspnea, and altered mental status.

The NA I will work with RN/LPN, perform direct patient care, and pursue professional development opportunities. Eligible candidates will have Level I Nurse Aide training, BCLS certification, and a high school diploma; DUHS I+4 education is noted for competency.

Qualifications

• Completion of Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Completion of DUHS Nurse Aide I+4 education program as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Take and record vital signs, document data in the medical record and notify RN/LPN of changes.
• Assist with admission, discharge and transportation of patients.
• Help maintain patient environment and stock supplies; support care teams.
• Support professional development and participate in ongoing competency validation.
