Job summary

Advocate Health’s IL Central Lab is seeking a part-time Medical Technologist for the 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) with rotating weekends and holidays. You will perform, evaluate and monitor tests, ensuring timely results and adherence to protocols.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (or related field) and MT/MLS/AMT certification to be obtained within 1 year. No prior experience is required; strong communication skills are essential.

• MT/MLS/AMT certification to be obtained within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment; recognizes indicators of malfunction and applies corrections.
• Performs quality control and quality assurance; evaluates QC results and takes corrective action.
• Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to protocol.
• Provides direction, training, and technical assistance to staff; assists in education and training protocols.
• Helps improve lab procedures and ensure compliance with accrediting standards; supports CAP requirements.
• Performs proficiency testing and specialty testing across transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to patient age.
