Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Medical Technologist/MLS for the IL Central Lab: Microbiology, covering second shift hours from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.

This role supports patient care by performing and evaluating laboratory tests per established protocols and ensuring accuracy of reporting. The candidate must have MT/MLS certification or eligibility within one year, a Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences or related field, and strong

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
• Performs and documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment.
• Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol.
• Ascertains that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Provides general direction, training, competency review and technical assistance to staff.
• Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
