Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests across multiple disciplines. This role requires clinical accuracy, adherence to protocols, and the ability to train staff while maintaining high quality standards.

The position is full-time on the 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) with rotating weekends and holidays, offering comprehensive benefits within Advocate Health's Total Rewards program.

Qualifications

• Must have MT/MLS certification within 1 year or equivalent credentialing pathway.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests within established protocols; adjusts workflow to complete work on time.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance and follows reporting policies.
• Performs calibration, maintenance, and potential repair of instruments; identifies malfunctions.
• Documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance per protocol; takes corrective action as needed.
• Ensures proper specimen labeling and suitability for testing; collects specimens across age groups.
• Provides direction and training to lab technicians, phlebotomists, and staff; mentors students and residents.
• Contributes to improving lab procedures while ensuring compliance with accrediting standards.
• Performs proficiency testing and supports various specialty testing areas (transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, flow cytometry).
• Supports critical care departments with timely and accurate results during high-acuity events.
