Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform, evaluate and monitor tests across departments, ensuring accurate results and adherence to established protocols.

This role requires MT/MLS or AMT certification within 1 year, a Bachelor's in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and strong communication skills. Part-time day shift, 5:30–6:00 a.m. start, 24 hours per week with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required.
• Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Medical Technology or related field is required.
• ASCP MT, ASCP MLS, or AMT MT certifications must be obtained within 1 year.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests within established protocols and adjusts workflow to complete work timely.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness.
• Performs and documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments; detects malfunctions and corrects.
• Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance per established protocol; takes corrective action when indicated.
• Ensures proper labeling and collection of specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Provides direction and training to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
• Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures and ensures CAP/Regulatory compliance.
• Performs internal and external proficiency testing; supports accuracy of patient results across departments.
• Performs specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Provides timely and accurate laboratory results for critical care departments during high acuity events.
