Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for a full-time 3rd shift (10:00 PM–6:30 AM) position. The role involves performing tests in a clinical laboratory, reporting results accurately for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Eligible candidates hold an Associate degree in medical technology or related field and must obtain MLT (ASCP) within 1 year of hire.

• Associates degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• Must obtain MLT (ASCP) certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow appropriate for the specific laboratory section to ensure orders are entered correctly, specimens collected are appropriate for the test ordered and are correctly processed/transported.
• Verifies order where necessary and checks non-patient information according to protocol.
• Handles unresolved orders, troubleshoots and escalates when needed.
• Verifies with physicians and/or nurses prior to LIS order entry to resolve unclear orders.
• Verifies specimens for add-on tests are available and acceptable and generates add-on test orders.
• Recognizes when fraud and abuse issues require adjustments to the test order.
• Performs and documents pretest specimen preparation and transfers specimens per SOPs.
• Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing and ensures testing within defined turn-around times.

Education

Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the national ASCP certifying exam
