Job summary

Northwestern Medicine’s Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist for 20 hours per week on the 3rd shift (10pm–6:30am). Must be able to work every other weekend and comply with the organization’s ethics, compliance, and policies to support patient diagnosis through timely lab results.

The role spans pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic duties, including QC, specimen handling, and result reporting, with ASCP certification requirements and ongoing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, MLS, or allied field eligible to sit ASCP exam.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• If hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified within one year.

Responsibilities

• Pre-analytic workflow: ensure correct order entry, appropriate specimen collection, and proper transport.
• Verify orders and non-patient information per protocol.
• Handle unresolved orders and troubleshoot as needed.
• Coordinate with physicians/nurses to resolve unclear orders in LIS.
• Verify specimen labeling and suitability for add-on tests.
• Perform testing per SOP and maintain test system integrity.
• Conduct QC and reagent checks; ensure inventory sufficiency.
• Prepare specimens and transport to approved testing locations.
• Analyze results, provide interpretations, and ensure timely reporting.
• Maintain safety, document procedures, and participate in training.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science/Allied Health qualifying for ASCP

ASCP Certification General MLS/MT or eligible

ASCP Categorical BB, C, H or M certification or eligible

ASCP certification within one year if hired after 1/19/2025
