Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for full-time night shifts at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. The role involves performing pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic tasks in a busy clinical laboratory.

Required to have an associate degree in Medical Technology/MLT or related field and to obtain MLT (ASCP) within 1 year of hire. One year of laboratory experience preferred; shifts include 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM with every-other weekend.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher in Medical Technology/MLT/CLS or related field qualifying for ASCP exam.
• Must obtain MLT (ASCP) or equivalent within 12 months of hire.
• 1 year of laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-analytic workflow for the laboratory section; ensures orders are entered correctly and specimens are properly collected and processed.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information; escalates when needed.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and maintains instrument QC and maintenance.
• Ensures test accuracy by performing QC, troubleshooting, and correct data entry into LIS.
• Prepares specimens, labels, and aliquots; prioritizes work based on test urgency and STAT needs.
• Completes post-analytical tasks: reports results, ensures confidentiality, and handles billing entries as required.

Education

Associates Degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Science/Biology/Chemistry or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the national ASCP certifying exam

Must obtain Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) (ASCP) within 1 year of hire
