Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician-Float for full-time night shifts at Kishwaukee Hospital and Valley West Hospital in Illinois. Under RN supervision, you perform basic care and monitor vital signs, while supporting daily living activities and maintaining clean rooms.

You will work across units, prioritize tasks, and communicate with staff and families. The role requires the ability to respond to stress, and a High School diploma with CPR certification; nursing student

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Nursing students who completed one clinical rotation, or CNA/CMA/EMT certification.
• CPR – Basic Life Support required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking in a high-stress environment.
• Prioritizes unit work and coordinates with the charge RN and staff as needed.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls and communicates information to staff/family/patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the charge RN/as needed.
• Performs census-related tasks and validates admission/discharge data as needed.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent
