Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Nursing Float Pool on the night shift. This is a full-time role, 72 hours per pay period, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with alternating weekends and holidays.

The PCT primarily serves as a sitter and may float to other areas of the hospital as needed. Under supervision of an RN, you perform basic nursing care, monitor vitals, assist with ADLs, and communicate changes to the nursing staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Phlebotomy course is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated by an RN, including vitals monitoring and glucose checks.
• Assists patients with bathing, grooming, and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Prioritizes tasks and manages unit workflow with RN/manager support.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls, intercom, and communicates information to staff and family.
