Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Technician-Float for full-time day shifts at Kishwaukee and Valley West Hospitals in Illinois. Under RN supervision, you perform basic patient care tasks and support nursing staff in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• CPR–Basic Life Support is required.
• Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Nursing student with one clinical rotation, or CNA/CMA/EMT credentials are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care as delegated by an RN, including vital signs, blood glucose, and intake/outtake.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization and multi-tasking under stress.
• Prioritizes unit workload with the charge RN and unit needs.
• Liaises between patient care units and other related departments.
• Answers calls with polite etiquette and communicates with staff/family/patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the RN when needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admissions, discharges and census lists as needed.
