Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a patient care support role to assist with direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will perform basic tasks, help patients with daily living activities, and ensure a family-centered experience in a demanding hospital setting.

You will participate in phlebotomy, vital signs, and transport duties while maintaining safety and quality standards as part of the care team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assist all assigned patients with activities of daily living according to need in a timely manner including making all assigned beds.
• Safely transports patients and escorts them for tests, as well as discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs glucose monitoring, urine and stool testing and maintains quality control testing & logs.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services, excluding line draws.
• Obtains and records vital signs and intake/output.
• Provides respiratory support and oxygen administration setup.
• Assist with examinations and procedures.
• Assist with basic rehab/Physical Therapy activities.
• Communicate nutrition issues to RN and support dietary needs.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent infections.
