Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn is a premier teaching hospital in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. We seek a Senior Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) for the 11pm-7am shift to support lab operations, specimen handling, and inventory management.

The role involves accessioning specimens, maintaining reagents, communicating with providers, and ensuring specimen integrity from receipt to disposal. Strong Excel/Word skills and lab experience are required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Intake/Accessioning experience is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Screen and accession specimens in the LIS as described in the Lab Assistant Job Description.
• Maintain supplies for general lab items and department-specific reagents.
• Receive goods and document according to NYU policy and guidelines.
• Ensure specimen quality prior to processing and communicate test requirements.
• Process samples front-end: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport.
• Process samples back-end: storage, tracking, disposal per policy.
• Dispose of all department regulated waste and clean surfaces/equipment.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment and work areas.
