Job summary

UPMC Community Osteopathic is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Resource Pool to provide direct patient care during the night shift (7pm–7am) on a full-time basis (36 hours per week) with Every 3rd weekend and 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year. The role involves assisting with ADLs, patient procedures, and vital signs, while maintaining accurate documentation and safety standards.

A 10% resource pool differential applies to the hourly rate.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general healthcare experience
• Enrollment in PT/OT/PA/RN program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
• Successful completion of basic information system training
• Microcomputer experience preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• EMT or Paramedic preferred
• Access to medications limited to distribution to the nurse

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Document in medical records per procedures and report equipment malfunctions
• Communicate with patients, families, colleagues, and other departments
• Provide feedback to the RN and report changes in patient status
• Perform nursing core duties including ADLs, vital signs, I&O, and basic procedures
• Maintain safety policies and participate in department quality initiatives
