Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking an OB Care Technician 1 for night shifts to assist the RN in obstetrics and provide essential basic nursing care. The role includes clerical tasks to keep the Mother Baby/Nursery staff organized and efficient.

Responsibilities cover ambulation, hygiene, infant care, vitals, newborn screens, specimen handling, and transfer coordination. Requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS/CPR, and CENA or health-science enrollment; obstetrics experience a plus.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• CENA certification or enrollment in a health science program with nursing fundamentals course/clinical rotation preferred.
• Equivalent healthcare experience considered (MA/EMT/LPN) or strong willingness to learn with employer training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ambulation and hygiene for obstetric patients.
• Support infant care tasks (baths, diapering, feeding assistance).
• Document maternal and infant weights, vitals, and newborn screens.
• Handle clerical duties: phones, admissions, transfers, and charting.
• Maintain clean, safe nursery and postpartum areas and ensure supplies are stocked.
