Job summary

Virtual Vocations Inc seeks a New Mexico Licensed Multi-Specialty Coder to work remotely on a PRN basis. You will code inpatient and outpatient hospital records, ED records, Home Health & Hospice records, and professional services to ensure compliance with federal regulations and assist reimbursement.

You will review medical records for CPT/ICD/MS-DRG coding, abstract data for quality and Joint Commission reporting, and stay current with coding regulations to resolve pre-bill edits and denials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Coding credentials (HCS-D/CCS/CCS-P/CPC-H/CPC/RHIT/RHIA) at time of hire or within one year.
• 1-3 years of coder experience required.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint; encoder and EMR experience preferred.
• Ability to research using internet and electronic resources.

Job description

Working remotely on a PRN basis, the New Mexico Licensed Multi-Specialty Coder will code inpatient and outpatient hospital records, ED records, Home Health & Hospice records, and professional fee services for specialty providers to ensure compliance with federal regulations and facilitate reimbursement.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to assign appropriate codes (CPT, ICD, MS-DRG) for financial reimbursement and research
• Abstracts essential data for quality improvement and provides information to The Joint Commission
• Maintains up-to‑date knowledge of coding regulations and resolves pre-bill edits and denials for assigned accounts

Required qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required
• One of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with a coding credential achieved within one year
• One to three years of experience as a coder required
• Proficient in computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with an encoder and Electronic Medical Records preferred
• Ability to utilize the internet and electronic resources for research purposes
