Job Description

Scholastic Book Fairs are in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books for themselves. Taking place in schools and rooted in Scholastic’s mission to use the power of books for the betterment of all kids, Fairs bring communities together.

We host over 110,000 pop-up shops annually, raising over 200 million dollars for schools. We aim to deliver inspiring experiences that promote literacy and lifelong learning, ensuring everyone involved feels seen, respected, and welcome.

We are seeking New Business Sales Representatives to secure new opportunities and grow the Book Fair business. These full-time roles offer benefits including medical, dental, vision, PTO, discounts, 401k, and potential summers off. Compensation includes a base salary plus seasonal and annual incentives.

The qualified candidate will meet sales goals through effective outreach, support our mission to promote reading, and demonstrate our core values of caring and respect.

Job Overview: If you are passionate about education, reading, and creating impactful school experiences, join us as a New Business Sales Representative. Your role involves prospecting and building relationships with schools to expand Scholastic Book Fairs, fostering a love for reading and supporting school fundraisers.

Primary Objectives:

  • Prospecting: Identify potential school and district partners, initiate outreach via calls, emails, and social media to decision-makers like Principals and Administrators.
  • Lead Qualifications: Qualify prospects based on needs and interests, set appointments, and pass qualified leads to Account Managers.
  • Relationship Building: Establish rapport with educators, emphasizing the value of Scholastic Reading Events.
  • Pipeline Management: Keep accurate records in CRM, track progress toward goals.
  • Collaboration and Strategy: Work with the sales team to refine outreach strategies, stay informed on industry trends, and improve techniques.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Book events within assigned territories, identify opportunities through grants, foundations, and corporate channels.
  • Respond to sales and customer satisfaction opportunities.
  • Coordinate revenue-building activities with partners.
  • Maintain detailed activity records.
  • Prioritize tasks, recognize issues, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Support customer satisfaction through effective sales and service methods.

Customer Focus:

  • Develop relationships by understanding and meeting customer needs.
  • Build rapport, address concerns, and seek feedback.
  • Deliver value and ensure exceptional experiences.
  • Listen carefully and demonstrate genuine interest.

Teamwork:

  • Partner with Operations, share updated customer info, foster collaboration.
  • Contribute to team performance, suggest improvements.
  • Exercise creativity in product and process development.
  • Build effective relationships through organized communication.

Functional Expertise/Personal Effectiveness:

  • Support our mission and values.
  • Implement new technologies, stay current on sales processes.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and rapid change.
  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
  • Attend events as required.
  • Perform other sales duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Marketing, or related.
  • At least 3 years of successful sales experience, including leadership qualities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, CRM, and web-based tools.
  • Familiarity with children’s literature and school activities preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and achieve results.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
