Job summary

Shermco is seeking a Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and repair on distribution systems and equipment at customer sites across the region. You will work with a team to uphold safety and quality standards.

Travel up to 40% regionally; requires NETA certification or equivalent, 2+ years experience, EPC/EE degree preferred, and proficiency in Excel. On-site testing of high voltage gear with on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired
• Must have at least 2+ years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to electrical safety procedures.
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid training; training can be provided by Shermco.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection on electrical systems (low to high voltage).
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays; perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and test low/medium/high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Calibrate relays and perform power metering as needed.
• Rotate on-call duties and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
