Job summary

Sinclair Community College’s Music Program invites applications for a Part-Time (Adjunct) Music, Percussion instructor at the Main Campus in Dayton, OH. The role focuses on percussion instruction, curriculum delivery, and student mentorship within a program that covers foundation and early bachelor-level work with emphasis on performance.

As an adjunct, you’ll teach assigned sections, prepare syllabi, use tech-enabled instruction, and support student success while maintaining records and meeting

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with tested experience in the content area required; master’s in music or 18 graduate credits preferred.
  • Proven percussion experience at a variety of student experience levels is required.
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies that support course and program level success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse college community.
  • Demonstrated ability to use modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections per policies.
  • Use appropriate teaching methods and instructional technology where appropriate.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse students’ needs.
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success.
  • Evaluate and return student work promptly to promote learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Submit final grade rosters by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Cannot exceed 12 credit hours per semester.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by thedepartment
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize studentlearning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections inaccordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, useavailable instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategiesto meet diverse students’ needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote studentsuccess
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promotelearning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to establisheddeadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than themaximum of 12 credit hours per semester
Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with Tested Experience in thecontent area required; master’s degree in music or a master’sdegree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduatecoursework in the content area preferred
  • Proven and successful percussion experience, at a variety ofstudent experience levels required
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience ispreferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning throughinnovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the courseand program level
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills withthe capacity to work successfully in a diverse collegecommunity
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educationaltechnology, including multimedia-based instruction
