Job summary

The City of Staunton is seeking a Civil Engineer to design, review and manage public works and infrastructure projects. The role requires independent judgement, knowledge of water modeling, CAD/GIS, and stormwater practices.

Strong communication with officials, contractors and the public is essential. Preferred qualifications include a Virginia PE license and 5+ years in civil engineering, with a background in municipal projects and subdivision development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field; 5+ years of professional civil engineering experience preferred.
• Experience with public works projects and infrastructure planning is desirable.
• Professional engineering license in Virginia is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee subdivision and site plan reviews by private parties and coordinate with developers.
• Manage consultant designs with focus on stormwater management.
• Prepare CIP estimates and assist with grant applications.
• Perform inspections and contract administration for City improvements.
• Coordinate with City, state and federal agencies on projects.
• Prepare technical reports and mapping data for utility networks.
