Job summary

New York Edge is seeking Extended Day Activity Instructors to lead after-school programming at multiple sites in Queens, NY. You will teach or co-lead activities across STEM, literacy, arts, sports, and leadership, while designing lessons and materials for students.

You will report to the curriculum team and support site directors, ensuring safe, engaging instruction for children and teens in a hands-on environment. This is a part-time, in-person role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred.
• Experience working with children strongly preferred.
• Broad knowledge of literacy curriculum and current educational trends.
• May be required to walk up and down stairs.
• May have to lift or move objects/materials.
• Work is within NYC Public Schools; may interact with community during trips/events.
• Specialists report to school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.
• Safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and the Department of Health.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with and among students.
• Teach or co-lead daily activities.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
• Prepare materials for daily activities.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs and interests.
• Support the coordination of program events.
• Input data and prepare reports.
• Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities.
