Job summary

New York Edge, Inc. is seeking a Literacy Specialist for Far Rockaway, NY. This part-time, in-person role supports after-school programming across multiple sites, with emphasis on literacy curricula and themed projects. You will collaborate with Site Directors to guide front-line staff in delivering literacy-based activities.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, and college credits/degrees are preferred. Evening shifts and interactions with students are part of daily duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• College credits or degrees are highly preferred.
• Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with and among students.
• Teach or co-lead daily activities.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
• Prepare materials for daily activities.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.
• Support the coordination of program events.
• Input data and prepare reports.
• Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities.
