Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a Literacy Specialist for our Far Rockaway, NY after-school program. This part-time hourly position supports literacy curricula and multi-site instructional leadership, working closely with site directors and staff to deliver engaging literacy activities.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 18+ years of age, and strong communication and organizational skills. In-person work at NYC Public School sites is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred.
• Experience working with children strongly preferred.
• Broad knowledge of current Literacy trends and practices.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with and among students.
• Teach or co-lead daily activities.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
• Prepare materials for daily activities.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.
• Support the coordination of program events.
• Input data and prepare reports.
• Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities.
