Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to ensure competency, education, and training alignment with department and hospital policies. You will perform clinical, technical, service, and administrative tasks while maintaining required documentation and quality controls.

The role requires BS in Medical Technology with NYS DOH standards and 0–1 year experience; ASCP or NCA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate clinical/technical/service/administrative task proficiency.
• Maintain documentation per LIS and QA procedures.
• Consult with Supervisor/Pathologist on important results.
• Review Critical Test results and communicate promptly.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
• Perform technical procedures in Molecular Pathology, Tumor Cytogenomics, Flow Cytometry per policy.
• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on instrumentation; document remedial actions.
• Perform quality control/calibration procedures; verify LIS entries; log QC charts.
• Ensure all required QC/calibration procedures are completed and signed off per shift.
• Maintain records per regulatory requirements (cards, requisitions, LIS, statistics).
• Consult with Supervisor/Pathologist on important or out-of-range results; note sample issues.
• Review Critical Test results by repeat analysis if needed; communicate to Nursing/Physician; notify Supervisor/Pathologist in extreme cases.
• Prioritize work to meet turnaround times; notify if a test cannot be performed or delayed.
• Assist in Inventory Control to ensure supplies and reagents are available and stored properly.
• Participate in other projects/duties as assigned by Supervisor/Lab Management.
• Take initiative in resolving instrument-related problems and seek alternatives for testing.
• Utilize time to assist department and respond where needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge/skills to provide patient care appropriate to the age group served.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and ensure patient confidentiality.
• Observe Health Care Systems compliance policies and safety procedures.

Education

B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards
