Qualifications

• B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
• 0-1 year experience.
• Licensing: Clinical Laboratory Technologist issuing agency DOH / Office of Professions.
• ASCP preferred or NCA certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
• Perform technical procedures in Molecular Pathology, Tumor Cytogenomics, Flow Cytometry as outlined in policy and procedure manuals.
• Perform periodic/scheduled and as-needed maintenance on instrumentation/equipment and maintain documentation.
• Conduct QC and calibration procedures; verify LIS entries and sign QC logs.
• Ensure QC/calibration records are completed and signed per shift; log in LIS and Charts as needed.
• Maintain records per regulatory requirements (cards, requisitions, LIS docs, statistics).
• Consult with Supervisor/Pathologist on important results; note issues with sample volume or appearance.
• Review Critical Test results by repeat analysis if needed and communicate to Nursing/Physician; notify supervisor in extreme cases.
• Prioritize work to meet turnaround times and notify if delays occur.
• Assist Inventory Control to ensure supplies are available and reagents stored properly.
• Participate in other projects/Duties as assigned by Supervisor/Lab Management.
• Take initiative to resolve instrument problems and find alternatives for test processing.
• Demonstrate knowledge/skills to provide care appropriate to patient age.
