Job summary

The Mount Sinai Health System seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to perform technical tasks in chemistry/hematology and other assigned areas under the Laboratory Manager or Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include QC, calibration, instrument maintenance, critical value communication, and prioritizing tests to meet turnaround times.

Requires a B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent, NYS DOH standards, and ASCP or NCA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
• ASCP preferred or NCA certification.
• 0-1 year experience
• Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
• Identifies learning strengths and needs.
• Participates in continuing education. Attends at least four continuing education sessions a year.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical/technical tasks in chemistry/hematology as directed.
• Carry out coagulation and urinalysis procedures per policy.
• Maintain instrument maintenance and document QC logs.
• Perform QC/calibration and record results in LIS.
• Review critical results and communicate to Nursing/Physician; document communications.
• Prioritize work to meet turnaround times and escalate delays.
• Assist inventory control for reagents and supplies.
• Participate in department projects and resolve instrument issues.
• Provide care knowledge appropriate to the patient age group.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
