Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System in New York is seeking a Supervisory Medical Technologist to lead clinical laboratory activities in Molecular Pathology, Flow Cytometry and Tumor Cytogenomics. This role requires adherence to NYS DOH standards, strong quality control, and staff mentorship.

The position emphasizes regulatory compliance, critical result review, LIS documentation, and collaboration with supervisors and pathologists to ensure timely test results and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Requires B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education per NYS DOH technologist standards.
• MS Degree with 2 years experience as Medical Technologist to function as a Supervisor.
• 6 Years experience as Clinical Laboratory Technologist to function as a Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
• Performs technical procedures in Molecular Pathology, Flow Cytometry, Tumor Cytogenomics as outlined in the policy and procedure manual(s).
• Performs periodic/scheduled and as needed maintenance on instrumentation/equipment; maintains documentation including remedial action for problems encountered.
• Performs quality control and calibration procedures when indicated; verifies in LIS; records on Levy-Jennings charts; signs QC logs.
• Ensures that all required Quality Control and/or calibration procedures are completed by signing out records per shift/daily/monthly.
• Maintains all records as per regulatory requirements: card files, patient requisitions, LIS Documentation, statistical data.
• Consults with the Supervisor or the Pathologist on important results; notes inadequate volume or abnormal appearance of sample.
• Reviews all Critical Test results by repeat analysis and notifies Nursing Staff/Physician; enters details in LIS.
• Prioritizes work activities to meet turnaround times; notifies if a test is delayed.
• Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies; ensures proper storage and dating of supplies.
• Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Lab Management.
• Takes initiative in resolving instrument problems and finding alternative test processing options.
• Uses available time to departmental advantage and assists where needed.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care suitable to the patient age served.
• Ability to perform functions of a Supervisor based on regulatory requirements.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
