Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking compassionate veterinarians to provide in-home hospice, palliative care, and euthanasia services in the Lexington area. Work outside a traditional clinic, with autonomy, strong family relationships, and time to practice medicine with intention.

The role emphasizes end-of-life care in homes, independent travel to appointments, and collaboration with a dedicated Heartstrings team to support families during difficult moments.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel between appointments.
• Experience with end-of-life care and compassionate communication preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services.
• Travel independently to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary care environment.
• Perform appropriate examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, and euthanasia within regulatory guidelines.
• Educate families on quality-of-life decisions and end-of-life options with empathy and clear communication.
• Maintain accurate medical records for each patient encounter.
