Job summary

UW Medicine is seeking an MLS Trainee/1 in Seattle, WA for the Renton Central Lab under the DIDD Team. The role involves clinical virology testing, instrument maintenance, QA, and training responsibilities. Evening shift, 100% FTE, with relocation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in MLS or equivalent, and eligibility for ASCP MLS certification within 18 months. MLS1 requires current MLS certification and at least one year of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or equivalent education/experience.
• Eligible to take ASCP MLS certification within 18 months of hire.
• Current MLS certification or equivalent for MLS1 and one year experience.
• Up-to-date with quality control and laboratory safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical virology diagnostic tests; record, evaluate and interpret results; notify appropriate personnel for unusual findings.
• Assist in developing, following procedures and troubleshooting tests and procedures.
• Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments.
• Ensure quality control requirements are met to validate test results and maintain QA programs.
• Proficiency in computer systems and programs such as Microsoft Word & Excel; LIS proficiency.
• Assist in instruction and training of new employees and students.
• Act as a resource to lab personnel and assist in design and evaluation of new procedures.
• Prepare and verify reagents, standards and control samples.
• Maintain continuing education and keep ASCP certification up to date.
