Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. invites applications for a Staff Mission Lead Systems Engineer to guide end-to-end technical success from concept through on-orbit operations.

You will partner with the Mission Architecture team during early mission formulation, shaping technical concepts, driving architecture trades, and developing the baseline requirements for Muon missions. This role demands leadership across hardware, software, and operations teams.

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in engineering; 10+ years in complex system, mission architecture, and/or spacecraft design.
• Experience as a technical lead on at least one complex system design for USG/DoD/IC customers or commercial customers.
• Experience with major space programs for USG/DoD/IC customers, and/or commercial customers.
• Strong understanding of USG/IC contracts and their artifacts.
• Extensive experience in system modeling, systems analysis, and running simulations.
• Proven history of system integration and delivery of complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Mission Architecture during study efforts to develop mission concepts and shape baselines.
• Develop and maintain mission-level system models, interfaces, and behavior.
• Lead conceptualization, design, and development of the mission; drive cross-functional trades.
• Tailor Muon mission design processes to align with program needs.
• Translate customer objectives into measurable technical requirements.
• Serve as primary technical point of contact for the mission with customers and stakeholders.
• Manage requirements traceability, verification, and validation.
• Define CONOPS and manage subsystem budgets (power, data, mass, pointing).
• Identify and mitigate mission risks; communicate impacts.
