GovStar seeks an experienced Statistician/Data Analyst to support national security missions by analyzing complex datasets, validating data quality, and delivering actionable insights. You will work with data engineers and customers, applying statistics, SQL, and Python to evolve data environments toward modern architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or related field.
• 5 years of professional experience in statistics, data analysis, data science, or related discipline.
• Strong experience analyzing complex datasets and applying statistical methods to real-world problems.
• Practical experience using SQL to query and analyze data stored in relational databases.
• Experience using Python and Pandas.
• Working knowledge of relational database concepts and structured data.
• Ability to evaluate data quality, recognize anomalies, and determine data suitability for analysis.
• Ability to translate complex questions into structured analytical approaches.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, relationships, anomalies, and insights that support mission and operational decision-making.
• Apply statistical methods to evaluate data and support evidence-based recommendations.
• Collaborate with data engineers to understand source systems, data structures, and transformations.
• Use SQL to query, join, filter, aggregate, and validate data across databases.
• Use Python and related tools to manipulate, analyze, validate, and refine datasets.
• Assess data quality and reliability, collaborating to resolve data issues.
• Translate stakeholder questions into clear data and reporting needs.
• Develop reporting standards and repeatable analytical methods.
• Support validation of data pipelines and automated workflows for analytics.
• Contribute to data governance discussions and documentation.
• Develop analytical documentation describing methodologies, findings, and limitations.
• Communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate across teams to align work with customer priorities.
• Support from problem definition to delivery of actionable findings.
