Job description

Data Center | Building Automation & Controls | Mission Critical Infrastructure

Travel: Approximately 75%

Compensation: ~$200,000 base salary + performance-based bonus potential of up to 50%

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading building automation and controls contracting company that is experiencing significant growth within the mission‑critical and data center sector. They are seeking an experienced Mission Critical Operations Manager to oversee and scale their data center contracting and installation operations across multiple projects.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an individual with a strong background in Building Management Systems (BMS) or Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) who has progressed beyond individual project delivery into operational leadership, team development, and multi-project oversight.

Initially responsible for one data center project, this individual will quickly expand their oversight to approximately five to six data center projects, leading multiple Project Managers and helping establish the teams, processes, and operational structure needed to support continued growth.

The ideal candidate comes from the contracting and installation side of the industry, with the technical expertise and leadership capabilities to build teams, drive project execution, and ensure consistent operational performance across a growing portfolio of mission‑critical projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Oversee mission-critical contracting and installation operations across multiple data center projects, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
  • Multi-Project Oversight: Lead and support multiple Project Managers, scaling to approximately five to ten direct reports across a portfolio of five to six data center projects.
  • Team Building & Recruitment: Establish project teams on-site, interview and hire technical personnel, and develop the workforce required to support new project mobilizations.
  • Project Execution: Provide strategic oversight of BMS and/or EPMS contracting, installation, commissioning coordination, scheduling, and overall project delivery.
  • Leadership & Development: Mentor Project Managers, establish clear expectations, and drive accountability, performance, and consistency across all project teams.
  • Operational Scaling: Develop and implement processes, standards, and best practices to support the company's expanding data center project portfolio.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, project stakeholders, and internal leadership to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Site Mobilization: Travel regularly to active and upcoming project sites to oversee operations, establish teams, resolve challenges, and ensure projects remain on track.
  • Performance Management: Monitor project progress, resource allocation, labor requirements, schedules, and operational performance across the portfolio.
Required Qualifications
  • Approximately 5-10+ years of relevant experience in BMS, EPMS, building automation, electrical power monitoring, or closely related mission‑critical systems.
  • Significant hands‑on industry experience within contracting, installation, and project execution for building automation and/or power monitoring systems.
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing operations, leading Project Managers, or managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to build project teams, interview and hire personnel, and mobilize resources across multiple sites.
  • Experience managing complex commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical projects, ideally within data center environments.
  • Strong understanding of installation workflows, project scheduling, resource planning, subcontractor coordination, and project delivery.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75% of the time.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Base Salary: Approximately $200,000, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
  • Annual Bonus: Performance-based bonus potential of up to 50% of base salary.
  • Work Arrangement: Remote, with a preference for candidates based in Texas.
  • Travel: Approximately 75%, primarily supporting data center projects across Texas, with additional travel to projects in other regions as required.
  • Career Opportunity: A senior leadership position with significant influence over operational growth, team development, and the expansion of a growing mission‑critical business.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role with a growing building automation and controls contractor operating in the rapidly expanding data center market.

The successful candidate will have the autonomy to build teams, lead Project Managers, influence operational strategy, and help shape the company's mission‑critical delivery capabilities as its project portfolio expands.
