Placements24 in Welkom, Free State, is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join a leading mining operation. You will repair, maintain, and overhaul a diverse fleet of excavators, loaders, dozers, haul trucks, and drilling equipment, ensuring reliability and safety.

The role requires strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrain components, with a proactive approach to diagnostics and preventative maintenance.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic (NQF 4/5).
• Minimum 6 years of experience on heavy mining or construction equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing on heavy mining equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, and undercarriage systems.
• Conduct major overhauls and component replacements as needed.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and specialized tools to identify issues and ensure efficient repairs.
• Interpret manuals, service bulletins, and schematics to guide repair procedures.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and time spent on each piece of equipment.
• Collaborate with the workshop supervisor and other mechanics to optimize maintenance schedules.
