Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for our mining client near Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing large-scale mining machinery, emphasizing safety and reliability in a demanding environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience, strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and powertrains, and proficiency in reading technical drawings. We offer controlled shift work and career progression within a leading mining operation.

Qualifications

• Min. 5 years in mechanical maintenance with heavy industrial/mining equipment.
• Strong aptitude in hydraulic, pneumatic and powertrain systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, blueprints and service manuals.
• Valid driver's license and a strong safety record.
• Willingness to work shifts including weekends and holidays.
• Certification from a recognized technical institution is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mining equipment (excavators, loaders, crushers, conveyors).
• Diagnose mechanical failures, determine root causes, and implement solutions.
• Conduct major overhauls and component replacements on heavy machinery.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with safety standards and policies.
• Use diagnostic tools to assess equipment condition and performance.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs (parts, time spent).
• Collaborate with supervisors/operators to schedule maintenance and minimize downtime.
