Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer for a major mining operation near Welkom, Free State. This hybrid role combines on-site oversight with remote analysis and reporting to optimize performance of heavy machinery and processing equipment.

You will design, implement, and maintain mechanical systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and collaborate with safety teams to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, preferably mining/heavy industrial.
• In-depth knowledge of heavy mining equipment, material handling systems, and industrial machinery.
• Proficiency in CAD software for design and analysis, as well as simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science as applied to industrial systems.
• Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team with stakeholders.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is highly desirable.

Responsabilités

• Oversee design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems (crushers, conveyors, pumps, ventilation).
• Conduct inspections and analyses to identify failures and improvements.
• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize uptime.
• Analyze equipment performance data and prepare improvement recommendations.
• Collaborate with operations and safety teams to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Manage projects for upgrades, modifications, and new installations.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance and engineering staff.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures and operational issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to boost efficiency and safety in Welkom operations.
