Job Title: Middle School Athletic Director
Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic Middle School Athletic Director to lead and oversee all Middle School athletic programs. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, effective leader, and passionate advocate for student athletes, fostering a positive athletic culture aligned with the school’s mission and values.
Job Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Coordination
- Oversee all aspects of the Middle School athletic program, including team and coach assignments, practices, game scheduling, transportation, and facility usage.
- Develop and implement a Middle School athletic philosophy supporting student growth, wellness, and readiness for Upper School athletics.
- Build a cohesive Middle School athletics identity that complements the school’s broader vision.
- Ensure all athletic events are staffed with appropriate supervision.
- Maintain open communication with the Director of Athletics to align with the school-wide athletic program.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development for coaches.
- Manage the Middle School athletic budget, including equipment, uniforms, and facilities.
- Collaborate with the Upper School Athletic Dean and Middle School Dean for program alignment.
- Assist in hiring and onboarding qualified coaches who align with the school’s athletic philosophy.
- Communicate regularly with the Middle School Division Head.
Supervision and Support
- Provide leadership and guidance to coaches regarding supervision, conduct, and communication.
- Conduct coaching meetings and parent meetings at the start of each season.
- Ensure appropriate supervision of athletes during practices, games, and travel, implementing safety protocols.
Communication and Community Engagement
- Serve as the primary contact for parents regarding Middle School athletics.
- Coordinate with the communications team to keep athletic information current on the school's platforms.
Event Transportation and Oversight
- Establish transportation logistics systems.
- Coordinate game and practice schedules with other schools and officials.
- Supervise transportation to off-campus events.
- Monitor weather alerts and communicate delays or cancellations.
- Coordinate athletic events, tournaments, and competitions.
- Work with the Dean of Students and Athletics to ensure coach accountability.
Student Support
- Partner with the Dean of Students to monitor academic progress of athletes.
- Support students in balancing academics and athletics, promoting respect and sportsmanship.
- Encourage enthusiasm for athletics and promote values of teamwork and fairness.
- Ensure facilities are safe and well-maintained.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred; Master's degree a plus.
- Experience in coaching or athletic program management.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Empathy, emotional intelligence, and a student-centered approach.
- Knowledge of Middle School athletic development and best practices.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive athletic culture.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Proficiency with scheduling software and digital communication tools.
