Job summary

The Fountain Group seeks a Scientist II, Microbiology for on-site work in Sunnyvale, CA, to support development of in vitro diagnostic products and microbiology capabilities. You will plan and execute labs, apply molecular biology techniques, and analyze data for cross-functional teams.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Microbiology or related field with 2+ years’ lab experience ( Master’s with 0–2 years acceptable). BSL‑2 experience and proficiency in PCR methods are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR a Master’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience in microbiology, molecular biology, clinical, academic, or industry lab.
• Experience handling microorganisms and/or clinical specimens in a BSL-2 lab.
• Experience with microbiological techniques such as culture, microscopy, staining, and identification.
• Knowledge of lab safety practices.
• Ability to plan, execute experiments, troubleshoot issues, and analyze data.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data-analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and execute laboratory experiments in support of microbiology, assay development, and product development activities.
• Perform laboratory testing involving bacterial, viral, and fungal organisms in a BSL-2 environment.
• Apply microbiological techniques including microbial culture, microscopy, staining, and organism identification.
• Support real-time PCR and RT-PCR assay development and experimental studies.
• Collect, analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data and communicate findings to technical and cross-functional teams.
• Develop, optimize, evaluate, and implement laboratory methods and test procedures.
• Troubleshoot experimental and technical issues using scientific principles and data-driven approaches.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in accordance with applicable quality and laboratory requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Assay R&D and other technical functions, to support project objectives.
• Contribute to development and continuous improvement of microbiology laboratory capabilities, methods, and workflows.
• Follow applicable biological, chemical, and laboratory safety requirements.
