Job summary

Waters Advanced Diagnostic invites applications for a Scientist II – Microbiology at our Sparks, MD site. You will contribute to the development and validation of cutting-edge microbiology and molecular diagnostics, working with platforms such as BACTEC, Kiestra, COR, Phoenix, MAX, and Synapsys.

You will design experiments with minimal supervision, author validation docs, and collaborate across R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Service to improve diagnostic solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, or related field required.
• Minimum 2 years hands-on clinical microbiology bench experience; bacteriology focus; molecular familiarity is a plus.
• Solid understanding of clinical microbiology principles and lab practices.
• Strong lab skills in experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Excel/Word/databases and excellent written/verbal communication.
• Experience with validation documentation and product testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Apply clinical microbiology expertise to ensure products meet real-world needs.
• Design and execute lab experiments with minimal oversight for development/validation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, and Service.
• Author and review technical documentation, including validation protocols.
• Support troubleshooting and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Stay current with advancements in clinical microbiology and related technologies.
