Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Meter Electrician C to install and maintain all types of electric meters energized at various locations, from shop to customer premises, and to support distribution grid control devices and metering networks. The role requires living within 45 minutes of the Roanoke, VA facility.

Responsibilities include reading meters, installing/reconnecting, testing, programming meters, processing non-payment disconnects, investigating irregular usage and energy

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic technology.
• Equivalent education/experience from military technical roles is acceptable.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain required medical certification.

Responsibilities

• Read meters on schedule for cycle billing and field orders.
• Install, remove, change disconnects, and reconnect meters.
• Test single phase, network, and polyphase meters for accuracy.
• Program meters and maintain metering equipment.
• Process disconnects/reconnects for non-payment when required.
• Investigate irregular usage and energy diversion.
• Repair meters, sockets, and enclosures as needed.
• Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meters and equipment.
• Address power quality issues and document findings.
• Work from ladders/elevated platforms and follow safety rules.
• Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
