Job summary

AEP Texas Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled Meter Technician to install, test, program, and maintain self-contained meters up to 240 volts in shop and on customer premises. The role requires metering experience, electrical knowledge, and a focus on accuracy during cycle billing and field orders.

The position involves troubleshooting, installing/disconnecting meters, and handling related equipment, with opportunities for advancement in a supportive utility environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or equivalent combination of education, training and four years' relevant work experience.
• Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems or electrical maintenance with hands-on experience in testing and troubleshooting.
• Roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel are applicable.

Responsibilities

• Read meters as required for field order and cycle billing.
• Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters.
• Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters.
• Program meters.
• Perform credit and collections orders including disconnect/reconnect for non-payment.
• Investigate irregular usage and energy diversion.
• Repair meters, meter sockets, and enclosures.
• Order/receive/ship/store/inventory meter equipment.
• Investigate service power quality problems and install event recorders and testers.
• Work from ladders and elevated platforms.
