Responsibilities

POSITION: MESA Engineering Program (MEP) Advisor (Open to CSE Employees)

STATUS: Full-Time / Benefited / Hourly / Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour

DEPARTMENT: MESA Engineering Program (MEP)

LOCATION: Chico State Campus; OCNL 114 - This position is eligible for partial telecommuting.

RESIDENCY: Candidate must be a California resident. Chico State Enterprises is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e., H-1B Visas).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The primary goal of this program is to support low Income and first -generation students as they matriculate through the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management fields. Working under the direction of the director, the MESA advisor assists with the recruitment and retention of MESA Engineering Program (MEP) students.

The incumbent mentors and coaches students by providing guidance in one-on-one and group settings, developing student success plans, conducting student orientation activities and outreach efforts, and creating innovative solutions to support economically disadvantaged students pursuing post-secondary education.

The MESA advisor is responsible for coordinating professional development activities and maintaining the professional development calendar. These activities include organizing mock interviews, managing resume-writing workshops, and developing student work plans.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating the MEP Alumni Action Council, facilitating undergraduate research assistantships with faculty mentors and students; collaborating with faculty involved in the Computer Science Camp and Calculus Camp; assisting with the biannual Technical Career Fair hosted by MESA; soliciting industry and agency partners to participate in events that benefit current students; and supporting the Giving Day campaign.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Graduation from a four-year college or university (by the start date) with a degree in engineering, computer science, construction management, another STEM field, behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related discipline with relevant job experience.

Professional experience in or a related field is preferred.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate activities; compile and prepare written reports; and work effectively in a multiethnic environment. Prior experience in advising (including personal, career, and academic counseling) and student recruitment is preferred.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Chico State Enterprises will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current Chico State Enterprises employee who was conditionally offered the position.
