Blackfield Associates is seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager to lead a critical pharma construction program in Indiana. The role focuses on MEP and Building Management System (BMS) scope from installation through handover, ensuring systems meet GMP expectations and project schedules.

  • Experience supporting MEP systems in pharma/regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Johnson Controls BMS and commissioning.
  • Experience supporting large capital projects (construction, commissioning, turnover).
  • Experience coordinating cable installation for power/control/instrumentation.
  • Understanding GMP and regulated project delivery.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across construction, automation, operations, and QA.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage technical and schedule risks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as owner and single point of contact for MEP and BMS during construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover.
  • Provide system-level oversight for HVAC, air handling equipment, electrical distribution, power systems, plumbing, water systems, fire protection, and building automation.
  • Monitor installation progress and system readiness to meet project requirements and schedule commitments.
  • Coordinate construction, commissioning, turnover, and operations teams for smooth handover of systems.
  • Support walkdowns, mechanical completion reviews, turnover activities, and punch-list closure.
  • Coordinate BMS equipment installations, controls integration, instrumentation, network, and cable installation.
  • Review field changes and as-built updates through governance processes.
  • Coordinate interfaces between MEP and other disciplines to ensure complete systems.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate risks, schedule impacts, and readiness concerns.
  • Provide status updates and technical input to planning, decision-making, and turnover.
  • Support procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment delivery planning.
  • Ensure GMP compliance, safety, and operational readiness.

Job description

Blackfield Associates are currently partnered with a global pharmaceutical manufacturer to support their search for a MEP Project Manager to join their project based in Indiana on an initial 12-month contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary owner and single point of contact for MEP and Building Management System (BMS) scope throughout construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, qualification, and handover activities.
  • Provide system-level oversight for HVAC, air handling equipment, electrical distribution, power systems, plumbing, domestic water systems, fire protection systems, and building automation systems.
  • Monitor installation progress and system readiness, ensuring MEP and BMS systems are delivered in accordance with project requirements, operational needs, and schedule commitments.
  • Coordinate construction, commissioning, qualification, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition of systems from installation through handover.
  • Support system walkdowns, mechanical completion reviews, turnover activities, and punch-list management, ensuring issues are tracked and closed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and monitor BMS-related equipment installations, controls integration, field instrumentation, network infrastructure, and cable installation activities.
  • Review field changes and as-built updates, escalating design-related issues through the appropriate project governance process.
  • Coordinate interfaces between MEP systems and other disciplines including automation, process, utilities, electrical, and CSA teams to ensure complete and operational systems.
  • Identify, assess, and escalated risks, schedule impacts, installation issues, and readiness concerns that could affect project delivery.
  • Provide system status updates, readiness reporting, and technical input to support project planning, decision-making, and turnover activities.
  • Support procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment delivery planning to ensure alignment with construction and commissioning schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP requirements, project quality standards, safety expectations, and operational readiness objectives.
Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • sufficient experience supporting MEP systems, building automation systems, or facilities engineering within pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, and building automation/control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with BMS platforms, preferably Johnson Controls systems, including controls integration, instrumentation, terminations, and commissioning activities.
  • Proven experience supporting construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, qualification, and turnover activities on large capital projects.
  • Experience coordinating power, control, and instrumentation cable installation activities within industrial or pharmaceutical facilities.
  • Strong understanding of GMP environments, facility operations, and regulated project delivery requirements.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams across construction, commissioning, automation, operations, and quality functions.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage technical, schedule, and operational risks while driving systems to successful completion and handover.
