Job summary

Clark Construction Group in Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Systems (MEPF) Preconstruction Engineer focused on electrical and low voltage systems to support our LA/OC offices. You will lead preconstruction activities with internal teams, trade partners, and designers to ensure designs meet budget, schedule, and program standards.

The role involves analyzing drawings and specifications to develop time, cost, and labor estimates, steering value analysis, and guiding design deliverables.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
• 4+ years of construction, estimating, and/or cost control experience.
• Field experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of Building Connected, Excel, and Bluebeam.
• Familiarity with Beck Destini Estimator, Fieldwire, and JOIN is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead various aspects of the MEPF preconstruction process with internal team members, trade partners, designers, engineers, and project stakeholders to deliver a design that is on budget, on schedule, and compliant with program standards.
• Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
• Drive value analysis to identify opportunities and make the design more cost effective, efficient, and constructable.
• Collect and analyze cost data, identify options, provide recommendations and solutions to budget and design issues as they arise.
• Conduct document reviews to verify compliance with program, design intent and pace of advancement.
• Lead stakeholder design progress meetings, value analysis sessions, and design conferences related to MEPF systems.
• Support preconstruction lead in development of design deliverables and workflow, including design packaging decisions for subcontracting and permitting.
• Collaborate with project managers, preconstruction managers, other cost estimators, and field leadership to develop overall project cost and schedule.
• Develop trade partner RFQs for best value evaluation and selection.
• Solicit and evaluate trade partner quotes for scope, qualifications, risks and opportunities.
• Lead meetings with trade partners to resolve scope gaps and schedule challenges.
• Perform risk and contract management on bids.
• Assist in developing a strategy for small, minority and/or disadvantaged business participation.
• Maintain a database of estimated and actual costs and lead times.
• Examine construction sites to account for unusual or challenging conditions in the estimate.
