Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced MEP Design Phase Manager to oversee electrical design phase activities across concurrent commercial projects. Responsibilities include project estimating, partner selection, schedule development, design development, quality control, and commissioning planning for MEP scopes.

The role requires leading design and estimating teams, ensuring constructability and collaboration with customers, and applying Lean Design Delivery principles with BIM/VDC tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction or engineering field.
• Minimum 10 years of construction experience, preferably with a mechanical or electrical contractor.
• Minimum five years of estimating or on-site project management experience, with 1–2 years as a Preconstruction Manager.
• Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing abilities at all organizational levels.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem solving, initiative, and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems.
• Willingness to travel up to 70%.

Responsibilities

• Manage the design process and lead design phase teams.
• Define project expectations with customers/owners for the design phase.
• Solicit, select, and contract designers for design-build projects.
• Develop and lead preparation and presentation of project proposals.
• Develop detailed design phase and baseline construction schedules.
• Plan construction activities, contracts, and site utilization using Lean Design Delivery and BIM/VDC.
